Male character

Posted by Finasty - May 21st, 2025

Okay so, before i try and practice how to draw male character, which is the best way to learn and try to draw it?

Is it should be using my own male character (based from the story background) or use another reference out of nowhere?

draw thorffin karlsefni or guts, it will help

There's two Thorrfin, one is from anime and one is fictional

I think using a reference would be the best option, just to get a general idea of the anatomy.

Sure thing

maybe start with small features, like a flat chest and shorter hair

I'd like to make it full body

Find one of those art reference sites/books. It really does make a difference

I have one app that shows all art references, so i guess that's enough

Reference is key, especially when working with anatomy.

Also, it's funny that I'm kind of envious of how easily you seem to draw female characters, but apparently need a little extra help drawing male characters. For me, drawing male characters is my comfort zone, but I can't draw female characters (especially pretty or conventionally-attractive girls and women) without copious amounts of anatomy reference. I guess we all have our different strengths and weaknesses.

I have never draw any male before lol, that's why i need a little extra help, especially the hair of a male character (and the abs)

But i'll try using a reference

I'd say use a reference

Okay then, i'll try to use it

You should use Eikichi Onizuka as a reference!

I'll try

I don't how to help, sorry
Beside using references, don't know

I think copying is the best way to see how an artist depicts something and to take that insight and power

@Finasty , the one of the anime has no enemies and both dicovered américa, I prefer the anime
^.^

Give the dude the longest chin possible

I know the meme, but i won't do that >:)
