Honestly I don't understand why people are "migrating" from one predatory site with no regard with privacy/morals/safety to another. (Talking both about US and Chinese "social media")

Duolingo finds a shockingly increase in Mandarin Language after TikTok bans (like 250%) and RedNote(XiaoHongShu) is their only places to probably taking a meme video or just post about USA

TikTok is trash.

MARVEL SNAP IS ALSO BANNED

It is?

Good, TikTok is just a cesspool of garbage and toxicity with degeneracy all over the place, although there are some good things,
but still I don't have to deal with social media addicts who doomscroll to waste their time and post unhinged and cringe dance videos
or doing stupid shit.

Seems like you're not the only one who hates tiktok a lot, the content are the same in my country too

@crypt1cphantom trust me, Instagram reels are way worse. Especially in the comments section.

@SkilledFella Agreed 👍

rip

@SouSTAR I kind of think, in the case of RedNote, it's just supposed to point out how dumb the US government's crusade against TikTok specifically is if they're going to leave pretty much every other predatory site, whether from China or especially "born in the USA" like Facebook, alone for now. At least be consistent with your censorship!

Personally, I think TikTok and short-form entertainment is tearing this country apart (supposedly, 20% of Americans got ALL of their news from "influencers" on TikTok, which explains so much), so I will happily celebrate this setback to TikTok-style entertainment while I can, even if it's just a temporary setback.

I don't like social media.

@AeviarththeDragoness
Nothing was social about them anyway

Never used Tik Tok so yeah

@jthrash
I don't think that's "dumb". They have their interests, it's no secret that the govt and major US sites work together.... I mean, that's the state lol they're not going to ban what's good for them or profit them!

But it's not like twitter, Instagram, facebook, etc are good for us people, so I don't understand why some people are saddened by the news.

"Oh no! How will i consume my daily ragebait now???"
It's scary honestly. They will just go to another toxic and manipulative site, be it reddit twitter or whatever. Even if it's a goddamn site from a foreign country where they won't understand a word of what is written there.

Never had TikTok so I don’t really feel anything for the ban

Well same, i'm just giving a news about it

@SouSTAR As someone who reluctantly checks the notorious PC Gamer website every couple of days, simply because I STILL can't find any better source of PC gaming news to this day, I can't comprehend why it's even necessary to even set up an account for a new site just to feed your anger addiction. Many mainstream browsers, including FireFox and Microsoft Edge, spoon-fed you "rage-bait" articles which may or may not be "written" by AI the moment you first connect to the Internet, no sign-up process necessary!

@jthrash
Exactly lol
We can't even remove them sadly...

Also, i don't much about tech sites, what's bad with "PC Gamer"? Does they speak about other things than, well, PC's?

@jthrash the news on tiktok is less biased & more factual, than the same thing you'd get from majority of American cable news stations (FOX/CNN/etc); which isn't even a competition to begin with.

@crypt1cphantom I don't want to get too much into that, though I've been laying off the corporate news lately simply because it makes me extremely anxious, even if things are going well in my own life, and it is frankly sick that they profit off of making its viewers fearful at all times. I can't see how just some random dude spouting nonsense into his phone, with no verifiable experience on any topic, on a website where (until now, at least) anyone could upload anything without jumping through any fact-checking hoops, could possibly be seen as the "lesser of the two evils."

@SouSTAR Oh God, PC Gamer is the worst for political click-bait that doesn't even try to relate its latest rant on Elon Musk or the latest dinosaur fossil discoveries or the Nintendo Switch 2 to PC gaming or building a gaming PC in any way. What's really obnoxious is that they are a UK and Australia-based site taking every chance they can get to complain about the US government, ensuring people outside the US are made needlessly anxious about our issues in addition to their own country's problems...on a website that is SUPPOSED to be mostly about what I should get in the next Steam or GoG sale.

Sadly, console-based websites like Nintendolife and Push Square have become just as bad on slow news days (basically any day without a Nintendo Direct or State of Play). Makes me miss "good-vibes" gaming magazines like Nintendo Power...

@jthrash
Gotta bring them views I guess...
It's a shame...
